Years 1/2

This half term, 1/2D will be studying Fairy tales and traditional stories until May half term. Our creative curriculum topic will link to many of the subjects and activities we will be looking at over the coming weeks!

In English the children will be studying a range of traditional and fairy tale stories. Children will be exploring the stories through drama, sequencing and re-writing a fairy story. Throughout this half term, children will continue to work on planning, writing and checking their sentences and think about interesting ways they can start their sentences.

In mathematics we will be working on: capacity and volume, number work including sequencing, counting in sequences of twos, fives and tens, positional language, time and fractions! Children will explore Maths through a range of guided and independent practical activities as well as have the opportunity to access the classroom My Time activities.

Children will be learning to identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees as well as describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants. This learning will be linked through Jack and the Beanstalk.

This half term, our ICT will be linked to our English work. In groups and pairs, children will explore audio books and use musical instruments, iPads and laptops to create their own audio book which they will share with the rest of the class.

We will be going on our Summer term trip before half term. We are going to Margam Park in order to use the Fairy Tale Land houses to film and photograph their own tales.
