Year 5 Outline of Learning for This Half Term
Children will have their games lesson every Friday afternoon so will need their P.E kit with trainers. Their homework is due every Thursday however they are welcome to bring it in beforehand if they are eager to!
Topic Work
This half term we are carrying on our 1960’s topic of ‘Mod’s and Rocker’s as the children are enjoying it so much and there is so much more we can look at. This project has a history, art and science focus and teaches children about life in the 1960s including significant social, cultural and political events of the time. At the heart of this project the children will learn how to write scripts and will develop additional skills in writing biographies and reports of historical events.
Welcome to Year 5 class website! Over the year we will be adding information and pictures of what we have been doing lately in our classroom.
Important Information:
The children are asked to complete one piece of homework a week and to bring it back into school by Thursday. If they complete it earlier they can bring it in. They will be marked and returned to the children to take home each Friday. For each piece of homework they complete they will have a raffle ticket put into a jar in class and prizes will be given to those who get picked out at the end of each half term.
Reading record books will be checked every Monday. Please support your children by hearing them read as much as possible or if they are independent readers remind them to write short comments in their reading record books about what has happened in the story or something they have learnt.
Children will be given a short list of 10 spellings to learn every week. They will be given them on the Friday so they have a full 7 days to practise them and prepare for their test the following Friday. We will be giving a raffle ticket to any pupils who get 10 out of 10 on their tests to reward their effort.
PE
Children will take part in two separate PE sessions every week. They will require shorts and plain white t-shirts for indoor PE every Thursday afternoon. Outdoor PE will require shorts, tops and appropriate footwear and will be held on a Friday afternoon.
