This topic has a PE focus and teaches children about a range of sports and sporting events, the importance of healthy living and exercise and the history of the greatest sports event on Earth, the Olympics.
They will learn about the different parts and functions of the human body including different muscle groups as well as the importance of healthy eating and exercise. The History part looks at the lives and culture of the ancient Greek people, how the Olympics began and the importance of the Olympics today.
This leads nicely into the range of sports activities we will be carrying out, and the ‘Innovate’ part of the topic will be group work, with children designing their own Olympic games with new sports and rules. The conclusion of this topic will be holding a sporting event which the groups have organised, so long as the Welsh weather is on our side!
