Year 5

Welcome to Year 5's class page. Our class teacher is Mrs. Delgado and we hope you enjoy reading about the exciting work we have been doing.

Important information - Year 4 and 5's school trip date has been changed from Thursday 10th of July to Tuesday 15th July.

This term's topic - CHAMPIONS

This topic has a PE focus and teaches children about a range of sports and sporting events, the importance of healthy living and exercise and the history of the greatest sports event on Earth, the Olympics.

They will learn about the different parts and functions of the human body including different muscle groups as well as the importance of healthy eating and exercise.  The History part looks at the lives and culture of the ancient Greek people, how the Olympics began and the importance of the Olympics today.

This leads nicely into the range of sports activities we will be carrying out, and the ‘Innovate’ part of the topic will be group work, with children designing their own Olympic games with new sports and rules. The conclusion of this topic will be holding a sporting event which the groups have organised, so long as the Welsh weather is on our side!

Rhys William's visit, Cardiff Blues

To kick off this term's Champions topic, we were lucky enough to have a special guest who came in to talk to the class. Rhys Williams, who currently plays for Cardiff Blues Rugby team, answered the many questions the children had prepared for him as well as letting them try on his official rugby tops and other merchandise. The children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and were overjoyed when he agreed to sign an autograph for each and every child (and teacher!)

P.E. and Games

After the May half term holiday, we will be having PE and Games on both Tuesdays and Fridays so please remember to bring PE kit on Tuesdays for indoor gymnastics / dance and PE kit with trainers for Fridays when we will probably go outside.

Learning Logs - these need to be returned by Thursday each week as we have a session looking at the work completed on Thursday afternoons and the following week's work is also given out. Please encourage your children to complete the set work which they can present however they wish. If they require the internet or use of a computer and you don't have one at home, there's an I.T. drop-in session on Tuesdays after school when they have chance to use the school's facilities.

Learning Logs – to be completed by Thursday 26th June.  Please complete task 1 and either of tasks 2 and 3
