2/3S

Welcome to 2/3S

We are a happy, friendly and bubbly group of children. Our adults in our class are called Mrs Stephens and Mrs Deere. We have P.E every Monday so we need to come to school in our P.E kits, (black shorts/joggers, white T shirt and trainers).

November 2020

This half term our topic is, 'Paws, claws and jaws'. This is primarily a Science themed topic. We will be spending two weeks focusing on nocturnal animals, mainly hedgehogs. Two weeks looking at animals in the Bornean rainforest, mainly orangutans and finally two weeks on zoo animals. We will be finishing the half term off with fun Christmas activities in the final week.

We will be finding out how the animals live and their habitats, the food chains, what the animals eat and how we can help animals that are at risk of becoming endangered.

In language, we will be continuing to identify our sounds correctly and reading and spelling high frequency words. Please ensure the children come to school with their reading books every day. We will be writing a set of instructions, writing an informal letter to an orangutan in the Bornean rainforest, and creating a Christmas Winnie the Pooh themed poem!

In maths, we will continue to learn our times tables, consolidate our understanding of place value and use both mental and written methods to add and subtract. We will be introduced to division, recognising 2D and 3D shapes and identifying their properties and identifying compass directions.

The children will continue to develop their talk to explain their understanding of mathematical concepts using our Maths talk sentence starters....they are already doing extremely well with this!

P.E will continue to be on a Monday so all children still need to come to school in their P.E kits.

We will be aiming to spend as much time as possible outside this half term. Please ensure the children come to school with a suitable coat every day and they bring wellies in, with their names on in a plastic bag to be left on their peg.

If you haven't already, please log in to the Seesaw family app as I will use this as a form of communication. If you have any questions regarding Seesaw, please don't hesitate to ask.

September 2020

This half term our topic is 'At the end of the rainbow'. We are learning how rainbows appear, why we see colours inside bubbles, identifying healthy and unhealthy foods and tasting the rainbow using fruit and vegetables.

We will be working hard to recognise whole numbers, ordering and comparing numbers, recalling the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and beginning to add whole numbers.

In language we will be looking at the different parts of speech, using adjectives to describe us, identifying nouns and understanding what verbs are.

We need to bring our reading books in to school EVERY day as Mrs Stephens and Mrs Deere will make every effort to read with us as often as possible during the week as we have been away from school for such a long time.
