Eco-Schools

Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging 19.5 million children across 70 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet. The programme was developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in 1994 and run in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy.

It is designed to empower and inspire young people to make positive environmental changes to their school and wider community, while building on their skills, including numeracy and literacy, and encompassing Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.

Our Eco Journey

We are very proud to be longstanding members of Eco-Schools and it is almost 20 years since we started our Eco Journey. We are now approaching our 6th Platinum Green Flag Renewal.

A staff Eco-Coordinator facilitates the Eco-Schools programme within the school. We address problems faced within school, our homes, the locality and worldwide. This is achieved by forming an Eco-Committee made up of pupils, staff and governors. The Eco-Committee is renewed each year by means of class election. They represent the views of the whole school and act as a focus to push forward actions and discuss progress. Our pupil Eco-Committee (now known as BRACKLA RANGERS) meet weekly in an after-school club and are hugely involved in school and local activities which meet many of the criteria needed to remain a Platinum Flag School.

From the very beginning our pupils have all been very interested and increasingly more engaged in their efforts to address the current environmental problems our world is facing. In recent years we have completely redeveloped our Outdoor Learning Environment and this plays a major part in our environmental studies and the understanding of the global problems.

As well as ensuring that our school is complying with environmental issues, they have developed an empathy and understanding of the issues of the wider world and have been keen to be a part of the solution and not the problem.

The Eco-Schools programme is well embedded within our day-to-day life in school and over the years we have been involved in many schemes, initiatives and events. Click on the links below to find out more:

These are just a few of the projects that we are (or have been), involved in. Read our weekly Newsletters to see to see how passionate we are about the importance of the current Environmental Problems and how we address them through all aspects of our teaching and learning on a daily basis.
