Year 2

Summer Term

Mini Zoo

Our topic for this half term is called “Mini Zoo”. We will be researching information about wild animals and their habitats including engendered animals. We will look at what different types of food chains and how this relates to where in the world the animals live. Alongside our animal investigations we will find out about famous and historical zoologists and even become zoologists ourselves by looking at the  different types of animals that live around our school grounds.

In English we will be writing fact files on animals and write a menu for animals using “The Tiger Who Came To Tea” as a stimulus. We are hoping to visit the zoo towards the end of the half term which will help us write a recount of a special day.

In Maths we will be looking at data handling by constructing block graphs and answering questions and weighing using the different amounts of food that the tiger ate in our story. We will be making up our own number games using Animal Top Trumps cards.

In PE we are going to be reading the story of “Monkey Business” and looking at how we can improve our seated  balance by building up our core muscles. We will compete against each other by passing objects from one area to another or one person to another whilst still keeping our balance when we are seated!
